About Lucinda

An Acclaimed Artist

With A Passion For Teaching Others

Some artists travel great distances to find inspiration for their art. Lucinda has always had a view from which to paint. She has lived on all three of the U.S. Virgin Islands, in the Napa Valley, CA, and now in Sausalito, CA.

“I have been fortunate to have lived amidst so many beautiful subjects that I could paint in either watercolor or oil. The vistas from above Sausalito looking out towards San Francisco Bay, the endless rows of vines in Napa Valley, or the turquoise waters of the Caribbean—  in places like these inspiring views are unlimited.”

Thirty years ago her career began with painting the narrow streets of St. Croix, and showcasing her work in a local gallery. Since, Lucinda has owned two galleries, served as resident artist for Robert Mondavi Winery, Caneel Bay, St. John and The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas (where most rooms displayed her work) and was commissioned to paint some of the artwork displayed at Peter Island Resort. Her art has also been featured in many publications, wine labels, and on The Today Show, and Law and Order.

“Vulnerability is the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, courage, empathy, and creativity. — Brené Brown

HEALING

Through Therapeutic Art

In 2011, I experienced a personal tragedy with pain so intense it caused me to lay down my brush for over two years. My husband died tragically and I just didn’t have the desire to paint anymore.

During this time I traveled around the US searching for a new community in which to heal and move forward. My journey lead me to Sausalito, where I slowly began to paint again. I created art around the loss of my husband, and the grief I endured. This was incredibly cathartic for me and helped me move forward. I have since taught others who experienced similar trauma to create art so they too can move forward. This gives me a strong sense of purpose and I am grateful to do it.

If you have experienced a tragedy and interested in using art as therapy, please reach out to me. I am not a therapist, but I might be able to help you through art.

Teaching

Watercolor Art Classes

In 1997 Lucinda added another aspect to her career: art teacher. Lucinda began offering watercolor classes to those staying at Caneel Bay and The Ritz-Carlton in the Virgin Islands, tutoring everyone from 5 years old to 97 years old. Since then, Lucinda has taught lawyers, doctors, winemakers, stock brokers, jail wardens, rock stars, CIA officers, transgender and LGBTQ+ folks—and many others who thought they could never paint.

What stands out in her classes; laughter from the students.

Lucinda thrives off of introducing people to their inner artist by taking the fear out of painting and making it fun.

Lucinda had had people leave her class in tears, not because they were unhappy with their painting, but because they couldn’t believe what they had painted. She enjoys showing students a part of themselves they never knew and then hearing years later they are painting and even exhibiting. Others will say they have taken it on as a hobby for relaxation or therapy.

Corporate Team Building

Lucinda has been teaching team building watercolor painting classes to corporate staff, even before there was such a thing, for over 25 years. She has taught management and teams from Pfizer, 3M, Johnson &. Johnson, Genentech, Zuckerberg/Chan Hospital, Toyota, many tech companies including Quickbooks and IBM. She has even taught the upper management for the San Francisco Zoo! What stands out the most in all of her classes; the laughter, and the play. When people create, they are playing. When people play, they are having fun. Fun with their fellow employees equals better communication between the team. Go Team!!
